Let me take you back to a summer afternoon in New York City.
I was running errands — forty-plus blocks on foot in the heat, the kind of day where the sidewalk radiates and your patience evaporates somewhere around block twenty. I was tired, cranky, and thoroughly done. But my sister was working at Hermès on Madison Avenue, so I stopped in to see her.
The moment those doors opened, something shifted.
Crisp, cool air. Beautiful music floating through the space. And before I'd taken ten steps, someone appeared at my side — Sparkling water? Or would you care for some champagne?
I'm not exaggerating when I say the stress of the entire day just melted. I felt seen. Cared for. Like I'd stepped out of the city and into somewhere completely different. It wasn't just a store. It was an experience.
I remember thinking: if I ever open a store, that is exactly what I'm doing.
That was the seed. And it's been the heartbeat of Desires by Mikolay ever since. It's even our tagline — Experience Jewelry — because that's genuinely what we believe shopping for fine jewelry should feel like.

The bar cart goes up. Fresh florals go out. The Nest candles — our Grapefruit and Bamboo scents are perennial favorites — are lit. In Chappaqua, that means Susan Lawrence's chocolate chip cookies — and if you haven't had one, I'm not sure we can be friends. In Ridgefield, we turn to Deborah Ann's Sweet Shop, a true institution for anyone who knows that town and loves something sweet. We're big believers in shopping local, and these are two businesses that have earned every bit of loyalty we can send their way.
Well — the champagne doesn't hurt.
But what we're really creating on a Saturday is a moment. A pocket of your weekend where you're not rushing, not scrolling, not checking anything off a list. You're surrounded by beautiful jewelry, talking with people who genuinely love what they do, in a space that smells incredible and feels a little bit special.

Collectors who want to see what's new in the case — a fresh fashion jewelry piece, something just in from coveted designers like Jane Taylor or Rene Escobar. Women treating themselves, which is honestly one of my favorite things to witness. People who've been dreaming about a custom piece and finally want to sit down with Scott and make it real. And then there are the ones who wander in with no agenda at all — they just heard it was a good place to spend a Saturday morning. Those might be my favorite visits of all, because they almost always leave having found something they didn't know they were looking for.
This is what we always imagined Desires by Mikolay could be — not a stuffy retail store where you feel like you need to whisper and buy something to justify your presence. A destination. A place where the experience of being there is the point.
