Syna Moon Quartz Mogul Earrings in 18K yellow gold with diamond accents — available at Desires by Mikolay

By Tara Mikolay | Chappaqua, NY & Ridgefield, CT

I'll be honest with you — I wasn't looking for a new designer to fall in love with. After twenty-plus years in this business, I thought I'd seen it all. And then I picked up a pair of Syna Moon Quartz Mogul Earrings and couldn't put them down.

There's a moment in jewelry — and if you know, you know — where a piece just lands. It doesn't need to be explained. You hold it, you feel the weight of the 18-karat gold, the moon quartz catches the light in that soft, almost iridescent way, and something clicks. That's what happened to me with Syna.

This Is "I've Arrived" Jewelry

I'm in my late forties. I know what I like. And what I like is jewelry that says something without saying a word — pieces that read as elegant, worldly, and confident. Not trendy. Not trying. Just right.

That's Syna in a nutshell. There's an old-money sophistication to everything they make — a quiet luxury that feels like it belongs on a woman who's been somewhere, done something, and dresses like it. The kind of jewelry you notice across a room but can't quite put your finger on why it's so striking. It just is.

The Craftsmanship Is What Got Me

Founded by Dharmesh and Namrata Kothari — a husband-and-wife team based in New York — Syna (which means "together") has built their reputation on handcrafted 18K gold pieces set with extraordinary gemstones. But what sets them apart is how they work with those stones.

They favor specialty cuts — cabochon, sugarloaf — that give the gems a smooth, sculptural, almost liquid quality. No facets catching harsh light. Instead, you get this soft, luminous glow that feels organic and timeless. It's a completely different experience from faceted stones, and once you see it, you understand why these cuts have been prized for centuries.

And then there's the moon quartz. I'll just say it: it's one of my favorite stones. The play of color — that subtle blue-white shimmer that shifts as it moves — is mesmerizing. It's not a stone that screams for attention. It draws you in.

The Mogul Earrings — My Personal Obsession

The Syna Moon Quartz Mogul Earrings are the piece that made me say "we need to carry this line." Luminous moon quartz — 12 carats total — set in warm 18K yellow gold with diamond accents. They're an elegant drop design with the perfect length — substantial enough to make a statement, refined enough for every day.

These are earrings for a woman who wants to look polished without looking like she tried. They go from a Tuesday morning meeting to a Saturday evening dinner without missing a beat. And every single time I put them on, I get asked about them.

Limited edition, by the way. So if they speak to you, don't wait.

What We're Carrying

Beyond the Mogul Earrings, we've brought in a curated selection of Syna pieces that I personally love — rings with bold cabochon-cut gemstones that sit beautifully on the hand, necklaces that layer effortlessly or stand on their own, and bracelets that add warmth and color to a wrist stack without overdoing it.

Everything is 18K gold — richer, warmer, and more luxurious than 14K. Paired with Syna's gemstone work, the pieces have a depth and presence that, I'll be frank, photographs really don't do justice. These are pieces you need to hold.

Why I Chose Syna for Our Stores

We're very selective about the designers we bring into our cases. Every brand has to meet the same standard: exceptional quality, thoughtful design, and pieces our clients will reach for again and again.

But beyond that, I choose designers whose work I'd wear myself — and Syna is absolutely that. Their aesthetic brings something we didn't have before: that understated, old-world sophistication. The kind of jewelry that doesn't follow trends because it doesn't need to.

Come See for Yourself

I could talk about these pieces all day, but nothing replaces the experience of seeing them in person. The glow of the moon quartz. The warmth of the gold. The way a ring settles onto your hand and feels like it was always supposed to be there.

Stop in and let me show you what I've been obsessing over. I think you'll understand immediately.
